Significant Tree Project February 2025

CRA's Art committee is launching the Significant Tree Project, the first step in a significant community art project.

We are seeking the 10 most significant trees from Mt Emu to Mt Coolum [postcode 4573] as a starting point for what we hope will be a significant community art project.
Number 11 is the missing Tree.
Fiona Harding, an artist who is passionate about trees, has been asked to develop and manage the Significant Tree Project.

The Significant Tree Project March 2025
CRA is proposing - The Significant Tree Project which will result in a small exhibition in the Galley art space around the end of May. This 'first stage exhibition' will be developed over 10 -12 weeks by the artist Fiona Harding in consultation with CRA and the community.
The process is expected to involve lots of interviews & discussions, with a wide range of community input.
The exhibition may reflect 10 significant trees, their stories, their scientific explanations and their artistic representations and interpretatons.

There will be the Feature trees and the Humble trees. The intention is to bring forth a greater understanding of these assets.
We hope to facilitate an indigenous connection in the early stages of development to broaden the community's understanding of trees from this perspective. We would also like to engage with the council's arborist team to develop an understanding of their practices to enable this project to productively benefit the community.
The project is very much about ‘research and develop' as we go, with the intention to have a very broad community reach.
